Set against the Sino-Indian War of 1962, the film's main plot concerns a small platoon of Indian soldiers in the hilly terrain of Ladakh who are considered dead but are rescued by Ladakhi tribesmen and by Capt. Bahadur Singh (Dharmendra). They are asked to retreat from their post (chowky) as the Chinese have surrounded them. Bahadur Singh and his girlfriend Almo (Priya Rajvansh) die holding the Chinese at Bay so that their comrades can retreat to safety. But even the retreating soldiers are heavily outnumbered and give up their lives for the country. Haqeeqat was based on true incident. It was loosely based on the fierce battle fought in Rezang la by charlie battalion lead by major shaitan singh.
Most of the soldiers of charlie battalion belongs to Rewari village & of yadav community. It was a great battle fought by this battalion who was totally outnumbered by Chinese army. The battle was so fierce that it was fought Benoite to Benoite & hand to hand combat, this too in the height of 14000 feet. The Indian battalion fought valiantly & kept control of Rezang la. Barring three or four soldiers everybody died including batallian commander shaitan singh.
The movie was so realistic that it captured all the nonsense of war. Beautifully photographed with one of the best music this is not only one of the best war movie ever made in India & can be compared to any international movie. I will keep this movie in the League of All quiet at the western front. Chetan Anand the director should be remembered for making this absolute realistic War movie.
